I agree one to one with God is good.

It wasn’t even really a decision that I made and it hasn’t been a commitment either, it was and is a calling.

Discovering God outside of church makes sense to a lot of people, but it’s a real stumbling block for many others, especially institutionalized Christians. To many of them this is considered “back sliding,” but it’s far from it, quite the opposite actually.

I’ve fallen in love with this book called the Bible. As well as the vibration as you read — Washed in the word — it’s real.

Just that thought gives me the chills. I born into a Catholic family. But not raised in a church. We had blessed ourselves at the supper table, lit candles and prayed during my childhood but I never felt at home in a church. When I got married we had the freedom to chose Lutheran or Catholic or what ever came up in the yellow pages.(im dating myself !) The Methodist Church could marry us no questions asked. Perfect! Now our kids were born and I still felt the pull to have the religious traditions in our family so they had baptism in that same church. All this religion but I still didn’t really get it deep in my soul…that feeling of God LOVED me. So I kept walking and my map lead me to The Presbyterian Church. It was time to teach my kids all that I did not know about the bible. Vacation Bible School is were you take the 5 day crash course! OK? This feels good, I said to myself. I am learning like a child that Jesus LOVE ME! This place ~ the Presbyterian Church became my HOME and comfort while my children grew and my marriage held together by prayer and love form this congregation. 14 years later and many hours, days and moments made in this church for me and my family to hold and cherish.Today I pick up my map again and look for where God wants me to go next. It is a PATH I am on. I am grateful to live in a country that allows this freedom. I am grateful to have been given all the gifts from all the faithful along the way. I am now taking my Faith to my yoga mat, my walks along the beach, my backyard with a cup of coffee, in my garden, holding my aging mothers hand or while I ride the interstate to visit my grown children. Each day I thank God for showing me ALL the ways to love and to believe in Him. or HER 🙂

thank you Tom for opening up this subject to my heart today! YOU are a gift~

Thanks for your kind words. I just read John 4:21-24, excellent passage that fits right in with this story! Best, ~Tom

Last year, I felt I had a revelation that it was all related to a negation of spirituality and a general disconnection of people from one another and from God. I have thought and prayed about this and wrote a book with a former student (see http://vitispress.com). I am still learning and hope to contribute here. Thank you for hosting this blog.

Comment on Did Roger Ebert glimpse heaven days before his death? by Dmitch https://www.patheos.com/blogs/wakeupcall/2013/12/did-roger-ebert-glimpse-heaven-days-before-his-death/#comment-89 Sun, 20 Jul 2014 22:16:00 +0000 http://www.patheos.com/blogs/wakeupcall/?p=1022#comment-89 In reply to Tom Rapsas.

Thank you for the response Tom. One way to discern a person’s veracity with such claims is how have they conducted their life since the experience. Dr. Alexander has become transformed. He continues to give talks and does not change his story. Does retreats, has appeared at spiritual seminars with prominent spiritual leaders such as the Dalai Lama and has conducted himself with dignity and deference. Recounted NDE experiences vary greatly in specific detail though they share some common themes. Why is a mystery. People should not bias themselves because some NDE doesn’t conform to preconceived beliefs. Your point is well taken. There is survival of consciousness. I wonder if Roger is still doing movie reviews?
