FINALLY
The presence of her absence
Was noted by them all
They waited to hear her familiar walk
Or her southern drawl…
The silence wasn’t deafening
In fact, it spoke a lot,
It meant they were remembering
What they had forgot
In deference they waited
And hoped to hear a sound
But not even a whisper
Came from the burial mound
Death can seem quite final
With someone whom you love
Your heart keeps on yearning
Even when she’s gone above
The birds were singing cheerfully
It seemed so out of place
Shouldn’t the world be mourning
Not just the human race?
The flowers kept on blooming
The sun refused to hide
The cars just kept on moving
And took it all in stride
But the family was quite silent
Standing in the cold
Hoping for renewal
But feeling oh so old.
But then the words came telling
A very different tale
That life’s final victory
Will one day prevail
Ashes to ashes
And dust to dust they say
In sure and certain hope
Of resurrection’s day
