Life: Searching for Strength

Life: Searching for Strength April 18, 2023

Life: it is a complex subject. Some argue its origins, and others study how to keep it going for as long as possible. There are many components of life; pages upon pages filled with information and opinion are available. But we, as believers, should give extra attention to one vital part of this passage. Where do we search for strength to complete this journey? How do we find strength for this life?

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is My Light and My Salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the Strength of My Life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Source of Life

We see in this Psalm that David makes a powerful statement. He says the strength of his life comes from the Lord. David furthers this statement by saying that because of his faith in God, there is no longer a fear of others. He adds to his comment that the light of his life, his very salvation, also comes from God.

It is most common today to see people living in fear. One might read this and say, “Well, we live in a scary world, a scary time.” While that may be true, such fear becomes quite a bondage for those with no place to send that fear and no way to be relieved of that fear. However, in the context of this passage, we see a distinct formula as to how to make it in this life, and it is not living in constant fear of everything.

We all have some phobia. Some may be fearsome over snakes, bugs, and spiders. Others may have real issues with height or a genuine fear of the dark. For me, it is deep water; I have a morbid fear of deep water, resulting from a near-drowning experience I went through as a kid.

In addition to these seemingly natural phobias is the fear of other people. This fear can stem from a traumatic experience from our youth, or maybe someone has been the victim of a crime or some level of abuse. Regardless of why, the problem is that this fear cripples; it steals the joy of life and does not allow growth to take place in the way God intended it to.

Solution for Life

The answer is to give that life back to the One who gave it to you. Serve, trust, and allow Him to grow in you a strength that says, “I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.” This statement not being a statement of pride or even foolishness but rather a statement of deep faith and trust in the Lord. Jesus gave His life that we may live. As we examine things, we must ask, “Am I living or existing?”

Challenge

So, Who is your strength? Who is your light? Who is your salvation? If the answer is the same for all three, then why do you still have fear? We should never let something or someone rob us of a joy they did not give. Go live the life God gave you and enjoy His blessings.

Now that is something to think about, indeed!
