Have you heard of the James Webb Telescope? It’s marvelous! The pictures of the universe we have gotten from this interstellar traveling telescope are so clear. We have not obtained such images of the universe in such detail before. And I was asked what Mormons think of this telescope.
My Science Influencer
First, I need to tell you that my family is heavily into science. My Dad is a food chemist and made serious advances in the foods we eat today. He was part of the development of Nutrasweet, fat replacers, flavor enhancers, and Ice Breakers Gum. So I have turned to him many times when I have questions.
I’ll never forget hearing my Dad bear his testimony of our Heavenly Father. Many men of science choose to forsake the Lord when they learn how things work in the natural world. But my Dad is the opposite.
He told me once that the more he learns about our world, chemistry, and the universe, the more he knows without a doubt that there was a God. That none of these things could be accomplished accidentally, and that science itself is living proof of a supreme intelligence guiding everything.
As I view the incredible images from the James Webb Telescope I can’t help but sigh in awe. The universe is so beautiful and diverse. The more we see of it, the more I am convinced that there is a God. The nebulas, stars, planets, and galaxies are proof that there has to be a supreme intelligence guiding it all.
Science Proves There Is A God
The big bang theory supposes that somehow there was a giant explosion and all the created planets and stars of the universe came out of it. But have you ever taken cookie ingredients, smashed them up, and thrown them into the air?
Do they come out as cookies? Not for me- they came out as a gigantic mess. It definitely didn’t stick to the theory that ingredients will organize themselves.
The first images from the James Webb Telescope have come back. And on their website, they showed all the places in the US alone that were hosting celebrations of the beautiful discoveries.
I have to show you because the number is massive. I think it’s safe to say the whole world is celebrating the success of this marvelous achievement.
Continuing Revelation
Something I believe strongly is that God is the source of all light and knowledge. When I feel inspired to write, I can almost feel the flow of insight come from Him. I believe that all the technological and cultural advancements we have been blessed with have all come from the Lord. Those who worked on the James Webb Telescope were blessed with divine assistance to create something so wonderful.
For me, this telescope is further testimony that God helps His children in our pursuit of knowledge. And seeing the depth and breadth of His creations in the images of our universe fills me with awe. The Lord tells us that His creations are endless in Moses 1:3-4
3 And God spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I am the Lord God aAlmighty, and bEndless is my cname; for I am without beginning of days or end of years; and is not this endless?
4 And, behold, thou art my son; wherefore alook, and I will show thee the bworkmanship of mine chands; but not all, for my dworks are without eend, and also my fwords, for they never cease.
As our ability to explore the universe increases, it is marvelous to see the words of God proven right. We have had to go by faith in many ways that His creations never cease. But now we can see, deep into the heart of space, that these amazing creations really do continue on and on.
I’m so grateful for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. And I’m so in awe of the advancements in technology that let us get a clear, up close, view of the works of His hands. The James Webb Telescope is a marvel of human engineering. And the images it sends us back leave me emotional at the incredible beauty of the universe. What I once thought were black and white, tiny stars with huge gaps of space between them, are actually multi-dimensional colorful creations that are simply amazing.
