Affirmations can help you create a successful spell. Not too long ago I said that spellwork is not just waving your hands; rattle off some words and voila. I focused on the importance of intent and effort. These are all still true and very important to remember.
Again, without having clear intention and putting in your effort then your chances of a spell working are slim. However, affirmations are just as important and need to be added. Important knowledge like this needs to be shared, not kept to yourself. It helps with creativity as well which is the monthly theme at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, New Jersey.
Affirmations are key for magic to work, actually for just about everything in life — magical and mundane. Send good energy out to the universe and it will come back to you.
Yes, spellwork is enhanced prayer. However, continuing the affirmation will help it along. It really has to be clear and concise though. Beating around the bush won’t help. Tell your subconscious mind with a direct order not a suggestion of what you want. Say it out loud in a few words. Make it crisp, clear and to the point.
Programming your subconscious mind to think positively will help achieve the outcome you desire. I know this very well. There was a time when insomnia had control of me. It took me a long time, decades in fact, to figure this out. I even studied it in my junior year of high school for my 10 minute speech.
My late elder Hermotimus “Herm” drilled this into us in Three Fires Grove, a Druidic Learning Community. We spent a few classes on affirmations and on intent. He explained how the conscious and subconscious mind work and that the one “talks” to the other. There was a point when it finally clicked and I got the result I demanded.
Finding the correct affirmation took time though. If an affirmation you create doesn’t work after a few tries, change it up some. I can now sleep throughout the night mere minutes after hitting the pillow.
Sometimes these affirmations need tweaking just by a word or two. An example of this is my first affirmation. I began by saying each night when I went to bed, “I will sleep throughout the night.” I said it quite a few times as I drifted off to sleep.
Eventually it sunk in, ah but yet still something was not right. I woke up way too early in the morning. I thought I failed and I wanted to give up on this lesson. Herm told me to add “until my alarm clock goes off.” Viola, at last sleep. I slept all night but again I still had issues though this time with the rain or noises outside.
Once I changed the wording of the affirmation just slightly, it did the trick. This made a world of difference. It is trial and error. Look at your affirmation, see how you might change the wording that would be beneficial to you. Sometimes it could be challenging and aggravating, you may think “well that didn’t work” and give up. Eventually though, you will find the correct words and it will be wonderful. Finding those keywords though, is just like fitting a piece in a puzzle or better yet completing a Rubik cube.
When you are not doing this, you are setting yourself up for sabotage. This was the first thing I learned on the Pagan path, above everything else. You must remain positive and believe it will work. Keep a mental image of the outcome that you desire. Light a candle if you like to help it along. After all spellwork and affirmations also go hand in hand.
Likewise, this goes along with that four letter word, “can’t.” First stop using that word: literally eliminate it, take it out of your vocabulary. Then make sure your intent is concise, put effort into it from step one. Keep a clear affirmation that it will work. See the results set in your mind.
So much of what we do and learn as Pagans is by word of mouth. Sure there are books for us to study but many only touch base on the basics. After that, real learning often comes from someone else’s teachings. However, both the student and the teacher have to work together. I was lucky though and came across two excellent teachers or I should say they found me.
Always keep learning, even when you think you know it all. As my elder the Rev. Foxxy Pullen always says there are no stupid questions. If you don’t know that answer, no matter how small, ask. Chances are someone else doesn’t know it either and it will benefit them too.
Don’t be afraid to order your mind around, make yourself be in control of you. Soon you will see the results take effect. Anything is possible, just put your mind to it. Think positive, you got this.
