How is Meditation a Form of Prayer

How is Meditation a Form of Prayer May 2, 2023

Could my newly found practice of meditation be a type of prayer?

I was turning 40 years old the first time I had an intimate meeting with prayer.

I had begun a new soul journey, one that involved meditation.

Beforehand, prayer seemed like a distant language, one I couldn’t understand.

Having been brought up in a secular society, I believed prayer only belonged to those that followed religious rules.

I associated it with ways to ask for something, repeat what had been said for centuries.

But then I discovered the gifts of meditation, moments of stillness and quietude.

I found myself surrendering to the moment.

Could my newly found practice of meditation be a type of prayer?

My meditations, became my prayers, changing one moment of existing to a moment of self-awareness.

I began studying the roots of Jewish spirituality, finding new and exciting topics to visit within my own heritage.

One of the most enchanting and exciting focus areas, for me, was prayer.

I found the power meditation moments offered my soul was parallel to what my “prayer” teachers were sharing.

It wasn’t the written that was given, rather the essence of experiencing humility on an intimate level.

My meditations, became my prayers, changing one moment of existing to a moment of self-awareness.

Meditation has given me the permission to create my own prayers.

Prayer offers me a path, like meditation, to go into the depth of my soul and listen to her voice.

I find myself reconnecting with all that is larger than myself.

I am taken to a place beyond fear and close to hope.

Meditation has given me the permission to create my own prayers.

A custom, as an author, I have tried to incorporate to my writing.

Yet, I have also found the beauty and heart meaning in many Jewish prayers.

As well as those offered by Buddhist and Navaho traditions.

I am blessed with a rich world of both personally and pre created prayers.

Meditation is a prayer and prayer is a meditation.

Prayer can be, like meditation, what we want it to be.

Moments when we listen to the unspoken words of our heart.

A time when a hand is needed to hold ours, or our love sends healing out to another.

Prayer can be the source of strength that allows us to take that first step.

Meditation is a prayer and prayer is a meditation.

They both can lift our souls and caress our beings with gratitude.

May the gift of meditation and prayer enrich your moment.
