Book banning in school districts is the rage here in the U.S. for the past two years, like in medieval times. Laws are being passed that restrict what books school children can have in their school libraries or that teachers use to teach their classes. Banning x-rated material, of course, seems most legitimate. But the movement has gone way beyond that, including the banning of books about race, gender, and sexual orientation. Now, politics has gotten involved, which involves parents’... Read more

Yesterday, NASA held its first public meeting about UFOs with a panel of 16 experts is serious about investigating this phenomena. However, it’s still the same age-old issue–the government isn’t allotting much money to the project. Plus, to me, the U.S. government still has a credibility problem about this issue even though it now seems to be earnestly trying to overcome that. Heretofore, NASA has avoided all conversation about UFOs, leaving that to other federal agencies. But now NASA is... Read more

Christian Nationalism has been in the news a lot recently. But what is it? It’s not easy to define. And many Christian Nationalists don’t actually identify themselves that way. The February 3, 2021, issue of Christianity Today defined it as follows, “Christian nationalism is the belief that the American nation is defined by Christianity, and that the government should take active steps to keep it that way. Popularly, Christian nationalists assert that America is and must remain a ‘Christian nation.'”... Read more

Mel Gibson is still working on a sequel to his blockbuster film of 2004, “The Passion of the Christ.” This sequel is entitled “The Passion of Christ: Resurrection.” This title suggests the film will be about Jesus’ resurrection and perhaps some of Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances recorded in the New Testament gospels, of which there are nine or ten. Not so! The film’s title seems misleading because Gibson has made it clear that this followup movie will “focus” on the time... Read more

The U.S. underwent a UFO craze back in the late 1940s and all of the 1950s and 1960s. Years ago, I blogged about this in a series of ten posts entitled “The Most Renowned UFO Incidents.” I had an introductory post entitled “Are UFOs Real? Some of Them,” The first of the series is here. I became interested in UFOs as a teenager because a favorite Zarley uncle of mine claimed to have had many UFO experiences, and I did... Read more

Yesterday, a nine-member jury (six men and three women) in Manhattan, New York, decided in favor of E. Jean Carroll in her two lawsuits alleging former U.S. President Donald Trump raped her in the mid-1990s and later defamed her. The jury did not go so far as to decide Mr. Trump raped Ms. Carroll, but that he “sexually abused” her. The jury concluded that Trump had to pay Carroll a series of damages totaling $5 million. The jury had been... Read more

My favorite study for the past few decades has been what scholars called “Son of Man study.” It is mostly because, according to the four gospels of the New Testament, this is the title Jesus used by far the most to identify himself. Scholars agree that during the time that Jesus lived, and throughout much of history, this title Son of Man in Jewish literature was rather ambiguous, and that seems to be partly why Jesus used it. Son of... Read more

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. What a beautiful state, which is shaped somewhat rectangularly from east to west! Its mountainous Olympic Peninsula in the northwest is quite a treasure. The voluminous Columbia River is much of the state’s southern border with Oregon. And Washington has multiple mountain peaks that can be snow-covered year round. In sort of the middle of the state the Cascade mountain range runs north and south. It serves as a divider that makes... Read more

In my last post, I related former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent praise of the Bible, admitting it was a better seller than his new book, He said of the Bible, “That blows this book away,” referring to his book, Letters to Trump, “I have to be honest with you.” Yes, please do, especially when it comes to the Bible. Then I concluded that post saying, “Mr. Trump, I have to be honest with you too. . . . It’s... Read more

Of all the mounting legal problems that former U.S. President Donald Trump has gotten himself into, most legal experts seem to agree that the federal investigation of Trump’s unauthorized removal of government classified documents from the White House and taking them to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Pam Beach, Florida, could be both the most egregious and easy-to-prove in court as being a crime that could result in Mr. Trump doing time in prison. But how does this have anything to... Read more
