Children ARE Being Groomed… But Not How You Think!

Children ARE Being Groomed… But Not How You Think! April 24, 2023

The term “grooming” is associated with the heinous crime of child sexual abuse. It’s a term that should evoke disgust and outrage. But when it’s carelessly misused in debates about transgender bathroom rights and drag queen story times, it becomes a weapon against the LGBTQ+ community.

Let’s be clear: the false narrative that links grooming with LGBTQ+ individuals is nothing but a despicable lie, born out of hatred and ignorance. The truth is that most child sexual abusers are heterosexual. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with it. What’s at play is a sick and twisted desire for power, not love.

Meanwhile, the real threat to our children is something far more subtle, yet just as insidious. Every day, children are being groomed by the forces of consumerism, insecurity, exclusivity, and bigotry. They’re being taught to be narrow-minded and intolerant of anyone who’s different from them. And who profits from all this? The same people who are spreading these hateful lies about the LGBTQ+ community.

Neo-Nazis show up with swastika flags, shouting “there will be blood” in protest of a drag queen story time and the group we are concerned about having a bad influence on our kids are the drag queens?!? Just take a moment to let that sink in.

It’s time to wake up and realize that misusing the term “grooming” in the context of LGBTQ+ topics isn’t just inaccurate. It’s downright dangerous. It prevents us from recognizing the true signs of grooming behavior and puts all children at risk. Let’s lead with love and create positive and inclusive school environments that benefit LGBTQ+ youth and protect them from harm.

Please speak out against these proposals and legislation, and against LGBTQ+ marginalization and oppression of any kind.

Please stand up to those who would harm our LGBTQ+ children with their hateful rhetoric. And we need to do it with love and courage. The safety and well-being of our kids is worth fighting for.

We have inclusive community and extensive resources. Come say hello at FreedHearts.org
