Spring is here, so it’s time for spring cleaning. Everyone cleans physical things like the kitchen. But there is one area that goes neglected: the soul.

Spring cleaning the soul is just as important as spring cleaning the kitchen. Rather than choosing one area, I will give you some tips to spring your kitchen and soul. But first, let’s talk discuss the importance of spring.

Why Is Spring So Important

Spring is the time of revival. During the cold winter months, the natural world takes its rest. However, the natural world comes alive during spring. Animals come out of hibernation. Dormant and new plants start to grow.

Like the natural world, we can fall into a slumber during winter even though we are technically awake. It becomes easier to forget about the unorganized mess in our cupboards. Most of us say we will fix it later but never do.

Furthermore, we can get lost in sorrow when it comes to matters of the soul. Other times we run away from it.

Either way, springtime is the perfect way to revitalize your soul and kitchen.

Spring Cleaning The Soul

Spring cleaning the soul means removing negative energy from the mind and spirit.

The first step to cleaning your soul is to have a mental health check-in. Although this seems like a no-brainer, sometimes emotions can go unchecked. Unchecked emotions can wreak havoc on your life.

How do you feel today? What emotions did you experience over the last 3 months? Were you stressed? Did you deal with anxiety, sadness, anger, or another difficult emotion?

Write down the emotions you’ve been feeling. Think about how you dealt with these emotions. Can you move on from them, or do they require a second look? If they need a second look, take some time to consider the situation and your reaction.

Compare them to other situations that caused the same response. Look for patterns of behavior. It will help you identify potential triggers and help you learn how to react better to these situations in the future.

A spiritual journey is filled with many highs and lows. Sometimes things are great, and other times they challenge our faith.

What have you struggled with? I know the S word is scary, but everyone has struggled with something at some point in their life. I struggled with connecting with God for many years. Eventually, I figured it out, and you will figure it out too.

You can never clean up doubts without asking yourself the hard questions. Write down topics that have challenged your faith. Consider why this particular subject is so difficult. What would it take for you to move past this challenging area of your faith? Maybe you need to talk with your spiritual advisor or God. Whatever it is, write it down and put these steps into action.

Practice gratitude. Gratitude means being thankful. It puts things into perspective by focusing on the positive and not becoming fixated on the negative. Gratitude is everything, so practice it every day.

Practicing gratitude is very easy. Pick out at least 5 things you are grateful for every day. Think about what makes you happy and who you are thankful for. Think about the opportunities you have, your goals, and how much headway you have made.

Practice forgiveness. Unforgiveness becomes an emotional weight that squeezes everything positive from your life. Forgiveness helps us release negative emotions like anger, hurt, bitterness, and regret. It allows us to move on.

You can practice forgiveness by talking to the person who may have wronged you. You can also write a letter to yourself or the other person. The most important thing is that you let go of the negative emotions corrupting your soul.

Don’t forget to forgive yourself. Forgiving yourself is just as important as forgiving other people. Self-forgiveness helps us extend the grace that we show others to ourselves.

Spring Cleaning The Kitchen

Now that we’ve taken care of the spiritual, let’s take care of the kitchen. The key to spring cleaning the kitchen is to deep clean everything. Most times, people do not deep clean their kitchens during the winter months. Now is the time to do so.

Don’t do everything in one day. Cleaning everything in 1 day takes up all your time and drains most of your energy. Try to spread it out over 2-3 days. The weekends are best for cleaning. You can do a few things on Friday and get most of the work done on Saturday.

Make a list of what you need to clean. Consider how much time each task will take and how much time you have to clean. If you only have one hour to spare, it’s best to clean something that will take less time.

Clean larger appliances on different days. For example, if you clean the fridge on one day and the oven on a separate day. Yes, it seems lazy, but you may miss a few spots because you are rushing to move on to the next appliance. Cleaning large appliances on different days gives you more time to focus on cleaning the appliance.

Put on a simmer pot. A simmer pot or potpourri is a natural fragrance. It’s made by simmering fruits, spices, and herbs in water.

Simmer pots are the perfect inexpensive way to make your home smell amazing. I love that it’s so easy to make. Plus, it’s the ideal way to use up citrus peels.

I love using this spring potpourri recipe from the stay at home mother because you can repurpose it. You can simmer the ingredients on the stove for a few hours, then use it to clean your microwave.

Clean and organize your cupboard last. I like to do this step last because it is the one I dread the most. By the time spring rolls around, there are mountains of Tupperware containers in your cupboards. All the pots and pans are disorganized. Break it up into sections.

Remove the items from your cupboard. Wash the items and dry them if necessary. Discard any old pots and pans or Tupperware containers that don’t have any lids. Organize them and place them back into the cupboard.

Restoration is a part of life. Spring cleaning can restore your kitchen to its original state. However, it can also renew your soul. You can deep clean your kitchen, organize your cupboards and make your home smell amazing. You can also reflect on mental health and unpack spiritual challenges. Ultimately a little spring cleaning will make your life better.
